Love this big leaves something behind

If you have ever shared your home with a giant breed dog, you already know what we are about to say.

We felt it every single day we had Scarlet Rose. She was a Great Dane, which means she was a lot of things at once. A lot of dog, a lot of personality, a lot of heart. She took up most of the couch and all of our best years, and we would not have had it any other way.

When she got sick, we did what any family does. We showed up, asked every question, and searched for every option we could find. We were not looking for a handout. We were looking for a door that was open to a dog like ours, and what we found instead was a wall. Program after program turned us away because of her size. The ones that did not exclude her would not cover diagnostics, and the ones that covered diagnostics would not touch integrative care. We kept searching because that is what you do when you love someone that much, but we never stopped thinking about the families who had searched the same way and found nothing at all.

Scarlet Rose passed away on July 19, 2025 and she was extraordinary in every sense of the word. She deserved better than what we were able to find for her, and so did every family that came before us and every family out there searching right now.

We built Scarlet Rose Gentle Giants Network because the gap was real and someone had to close it, and we named it for her because she earned it. If you are here because you need help, we see you. She brought us all here and we think she would have loved that.
